The next theme for Mandy and I was Glass. I came across a nice little still life photo on Pixabay and used it as my reference.

I haven’t used acrylics for some time now, but it was so nice using them again. In fact, I’m currently working on a larger painting with a surface I’ve never used before – illustration board! I’m so excited to try it and will write all about it soon.

FYI, there will be unicorns.

Anyways, back to this little painting. I know it’s dark, but I was going for a darker, classical oils kind of look…in acrylics. I used a limited palette of Burnt Umber, Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Yellow Mid and Titanium White. I think I actually saved time by using less colours, even though I had to mix them myself!

Still life paintings aren’t really my thing, but they can be a fun little exercise for getting back into painting after a break. You should try it yourself if you’re feeling uninspired or unsure of what to paint next.
