Do you know the best thing about using a sketchbook? You can sketch down any old-crazy-idea and it doesn’t even matter if it looks completely different to your normal style! So, in the interest of being different and trying new things with my art, we have a Big-Eyed Elf.

I’ve been looking at a lot of artists who have developed their own style and I really want to try and find that for myself. To find that watever-it-is that will make my work recognisable and unique. I love realism, but I also love stylized art (not that I’ve done much of that in the last couple of years…), and would love to find my own balance between the two. I decided to go waaaay away from my normal style and went with something really exaggerated.

And you know what? It was an absolute blast drawing this elf! 😀

Now, I don’t know that I’ll do more in this kind of big-eyed style as such, but I’m definitely going to experiment with other stylized techniques in my work. It’s invigorating trying something new and I’m loving it more than I ever thought I would!

And I would love to encourage you to try something new with your work. A new medium or style or even just different colours than you normally paint or draw with.

Try something different – you might just be be surprised where it leads you!
