I had a go at Inktober for the first time this year! (You can see what I did over on Instagram and Facebook). I made it through 16 illustrations before another creative project became more important than my daily inked drawings, but I’m still very glad I did it! I’ll post a separate blog about that in a few days because right now I’d like to share two of my newest artworks.
Both were inspired by themes over on Illustration Friday, and yes, they’re a little different than the kind of work you’d normally see from me…but, they were so much fun to draw!
During Inktober I played with a different medium (ink, of course), and thought it’d also be a great time to play around with different styles, and that’s kind of where this style was born. I discovered a love for more illustrative art. I’m definitely still continuing with larger oil paintings and coloured pencil pieces like I normally do, but let’s just say there’s another kind of art added to the mix now.
The two artworks above were created digitally, but I never would’ve thought of this style if I hadn’t participated in Inktober, if I hadn’t tried something new with my art. So I encourage you to go and try a new thing in your art! Whether it’s Inktober, Illustration Friday or something else, new mediums and styles often lead you in an unexpected directions.
And they’re usually directions you never would’ve considered before – so go and try a new thing!
